　小野さんが最も衝撃を受けたと話すのが、「北九州監禁殺人事件」の主犯、松永太死刑囚だ。監禁・殺人の容疑で逮捕され無期懲役となった内縁の妻・緒方純子受刑者らを洗脳し、自らは手を汚すことなく、一室で７人を監禁し殺害させた。その残虐性・悪質性ゆえ、事件の多くはあまり語られていない。

 

　事件は2002年３月、１人の少女が監禁されていたマンションから脱出し、警察に助けを求めたことから発覚した。翌日、松永死刑囚と緒方受刑者が監禁・傷害容疑で逮捕され、次々と凄惨な実態が明らかになった。

　凶悪犯罪を起こした時、人は何を考えるのか。それを探るため、殺人犯との対話を続けてきた小野さんが、著書で「悪魔とは、意外とこんなふうに屈託のない存在なのかもしれない」と記した松永死刑囚、そして操られてしまった緒方受刑者。
