７日午後７時前、熊本県阿蘇市車帰の県道で、熊本市北区にある陸上自衛隊北熊本駐屯地のトラックが道路の左側にあるワイヤー製のガードロープを突き破り、およそ１０メートル下の森林に転落しました。
この事故でトラックを運転していた北熊本駐屯地に所属する松本竜樹３等陸曹（２３）が、病院に運ばれましたがおよそ３時間半後に死亡し、助手席に乗っていた５２歳の男性の１等陸曹が胸の骨などを折る大けがをしました。
陸上自衛隊によりますと、トラックは、大分市にある大分弾薬支処から北熊本駐屯地に小銃弾およそ４２万発を運んでいた途中だったということで、小銃弾は一部が現場で散乱し陸上自衛隊が回収作業にあたったということです。
警察によりますと現場は片側１車線の緩やかな上り坂の道路で、事故があった場所はほぼ直線だったということで、事故当時は雪や雨は降っておらず路面も濡れていなかったということです。
警察が事故の詳しい原因を調べています。
