TOKYO -- Bones from some 500 people have been found at a deceased man's home in the capital's Adachi Ward, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) told the Mainichi Shimbun on Feb. 22.

The man's residence apparently doubled as an office by a model skeleton business. The MPD's Nishiarai Police Station is investigating further.

A relative informed the station of the man's death from illness in early November last year, according to police. An officer dispatched to the home found large amounts of bones inside and in the yard. The bones were later identified as human.

A person familiar with the situation was quoted by the police as saying, "He imported human bones from India a few decades ago to use for skeleton models."
